The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Wales for over a century, since its formation in 1904.
Today our work includes providing support for business, social welfare and education in rural communities, and the organisation and staging of our ever-popular society events; the Smallholding and Countryside Festival, the Royal Welsh Show and the Winter Fair.

Each year the society has a different Feature County. This has its origins in the early history of the show, when its location changed year on year moving around the old counties in Wales.
Since the move to our permanent home in Llanelwedd in 1963, the counties take it in turns to be the Feature County. In their allotted year the Feature County appoints the society’s President and Lady Ambassador, as well as taking responsibility for fund raising and organising a variety of events to promote the work of the society and the events.
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s unique structure of feature counties and advisory committees is what sets the society apart from others and ensures the people of Wales retain ownership of the events. The fundraising efforts of all the counties since 1963 have contributed millions of pounds, all invested back into the showground, making it one of the finest in Europe. This has created a real sense of shared ownership of our site.
This year it is the turn of Clwyd to be the Royal Welsh Feature County.
Clwyd’s efforts began in earnest back in 2019, under the excellent guidance of their advisory committee. With dozens of events having already taken place, the fundraising efforts of the busy county are now in full swing.
The 2020 Ambassador is Lowri Lloyd Williams. Lowri keeps us up-to-date with all the feature county activities in her regular blog.
Each year, amongst other activities and events, the feature county usually organises a large agricultural event. For 2020, Clwyd have organised a grassland event.
